Without funding, CHIP will end Feb. 1

MONTGOMERY — The day after Christmas, the state plans to send letters to the families of more than 83,000 children to warn they could soon lose their health insurance coverage.

The state could soon be paying more for another nearly 75,000 children’s coverage.

That’s if Congress doesn’t act soon to renew funding for the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program, which expired in September.
