Speak Now for Kids Turns 6!
Wow, how the years flew by! On Nov. 6, 2013, Speak Now for Kids was launched. Today, we are a strong community made up of more than 60,000 child health champions just like you.
While today’s kids represent around 25% of the U.S. population, they are 100% of our future. That’s why their health and well-bring must always be a top priority.
Thank you for your continued advocacy for children’s health! Your support has made a huge difference in kids’ lives. During the past six years, you’ve made your voice heard in a big way. In fact, our community has gotten Congress’ attention with a combined total of more than 100,000 email messages, tweets, phone calls, and in-person visits!
You and your fellow champions have helped children and their families across the country achieve:
- The new ACE Kids Act law. Earlier this year, the Advancing Care for Exceptional Kids (ACE Kids) Act was signed into law to help seriously ill children get access to the health care they need, when they need it. Check out this legislation’s remarkable journey.
- Extended CHIP funding. In 2018, a ten-year extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) passed Congress and was signed by the president. This extension ensured access to a range of pediatric services—from preventative visits to urgent life-saving treatments—for millions of kids in working families. Learn more.
- A successful defense Medicaid for kids. Medicaid provides kids with access to comprehensive, pediatric-specific benefits critical to their healthy development. Together we successfully defended the Medicaid program during the 2017 health reform debate, while simultaneously increasing awareness around the importance of the program for kids. Learn more.
- Increased access to pediatricians and specialists. The Children’s Hospitals Graduate Medical Education (CHGME) program allows children’s hospitals to train about half of the nation’s pediatricians and pediatric specialists—more than 7,000 annually! While CHGME funding has increased in recent years, we have more work to do—there continues to be a significant demand for additional pediatric specialists across the country. Urge your lawmakers to increase support for CHGME so our kids can reach their full health potential.
What great achievements, right?! Please keep up your amazing work as a champion for children’s health. Our kids and their families truly appreciate your support.
