Meet Lucas: 2020 Family Advocacy Week Champion

Lucas in his wheelchairLucas is participating in Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Week from August 10-14, 2020. Through this special event, Lucas and his family will share information about his health journey, Akron Children’s Hospital’s role in providing Lucas with necessary health care services, and why the public and our elected officials must invest in the future of kids like Lucas.

When he was 1 month old, Lucas arrived at Akron Children’s Hospital (ACH) in Akron, Ohio, with strep B meningitis.

“He has had struggles since birth, but it was Akron Children’s that saved his life,” says Beth, Lucas’ mother.

Right away there were several tests needed. The impact was immediate on Lucas and his family.

Following his treatment, he needed multiple follow-up appointments, surgeries and forms of therapy.

“Without ACH Lucas would not be with us today,” says Beth.

Today, Lucas is a thriving 10-year-old. He is a social butterfly and loves to be with his family, go shopping, ride horses, play harmonica and sports.
