Meet Lainey: 2021 Family Advocacy Week Champion
Lainey is participating in Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Week from June 13-18, 2021. Through this event, Lainey and her family will discuss her health journey, Dayton Children’s Hospital’s role in providing her with necessary health care services, and why the public and our elected officials must invest in the future of patients like Lainey.
As a 10-year-old, Lainey was diagnosed with reactive attachment disorder (RAD), PTSD and anxiety.
“When we adopted Lainey, we knew she had experienced trauma,” says Julie, Lainey’s mother. “But it took some time for us to understand how bad her pain truly was.”
RAD often stems from an infant or young child not forming a secure, healthy emotional bond with parents or primary caretakers. This often makes it difficult to manage emotions or form connections with other people.
“We needed to get her the right help and needed more information to better navigate her care,” says Julie.
The mental health specialists at Dayton Children’s Hospital have helped Lainey through her ups and downs with therapy.
In her free time, Lainey enjoys reading and swimming.
