Meet Eleanor: 2019 Family Advocacy Child Champion

Eleanor is participating at 2019 Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Day from June 25-26 in Washington, D.C. During the event, Eleanor will share information about her health journey and the importance of children’s health care with members of Congress. Below is her story.

Eleanor loves the color blue in every shade. She is an energetic girl, beaming with personality. Her favorite phrase is "BEST DAY EVER!"

Eleanor was diagnosed with multiple congenital heart defects at birth. With her survival at stake, she was on full life support right after she was born. The doctors at Norton Children’s Hospital informed her parents that a heart transplant was the only option, and 10 days later Eleanor was added to the national waiting list.

She was on the list for exactly two months before a new heart gave her a second chance at life. Eleanor is an incredible success story, and she lives life in honor of her donor. She was privileged to receive the ultimate gift of a perfectly matched heart from a two-month-old little girl in Pennsylvania.

Eleanor is fortunate to have encountered minimal complications after her transplant. Now, at 8 years old, she is a thriving, happy ray of light to everyone she meets. She’s very healthy and active—a constant reminder of how far she has come. Her parents are so proud of Eleanor's courage and resilience. They love her enthusiasm, creativity, and imagination.

Last year, she celebrated her first day of 2nd grade, another milestone made possible by her donor. Her parents are huge advocates for organ donation and they’re forever grateful for Eleanor’s second chance at life.

Join us in welcoming Eleanor to 2019 Family Advocacy Day.
