Meet Aiden: 2020 Family Advocacy Week Champion
Aiden is participating in Speak Now for Kids Family Advocacy Week from August 10-14, 2020. Through this very special event, Aiden and his family will share information about his unique health journey, Children’s Specialized Hospital’s role in providing Aiden with necessary health care services, and why the public and our elected officials must invest in the future of kids like Aiden.
Aiden was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was 10 months old. At age six, Dr. Aronsky, a developmental and behavioral pediatrician at Children’s Specialized Hospital, recommended genetic testing. The results revealed that Aiden had GRIN2B, a rare genetic disorder that causes developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, and abnormal movements.
Dr. Aronsky and a team of specialists at Children’s Specialized Hospital coordinated a formidable treatment plan for Aiden. To ensure he grows up as healthy as possible, Dr. Cheng, a physiatrist, treats Aiden with Botox injections to help develop high muscle tone. Dr. Richards, a neurologist, provides him with medication treatment and behavioral recommendations.
“The team at Children’s Specialized has provided Aiden with excellent care. I couldn’t ask for a better group,” says mom, Nicole. “They have given our family the chance to provide the best quality of life for Aiden.”
Aiden is now nine years old. Although he is wheelchair dependent, Aiden enjoys life to the fullest. He loves water activities and enjoys music—especially the acoustic guitar"
“I would describe Aiden as a Superman,” beams Nicole. “He holds powers that only some of us could dream of having!”
