Childhood obesity remains a battle

Many Pennsylvania youth continue to struggle with being overweight or obese, according to data recently released.

Statewide, 31.7 percent of children ages 10 to 17 are overweight or obese — and that’s the 21st highest rate among the states, according to a 2016 edition of the National Survey on Children’s Health.

The national numbers were only slightly lower than the state’s at 31.2 percent, according the State of Obesity, a project of the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which reported the numbers on its website.
