2015 Family Advocacy Day Hero -- Kelsey

Collins.Kelsey.jpgKelsey is an 18 year-old recent high school graduate and a patient at Dayton Children’s Hospital. For years, she has been teaching the hospital’s medical students how to best treat their patients

Kelsey was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 4. However, diabetes is no longer her only health problem. Within the past year, she was diagnosed with two autoimmune disorders—a bleeding disorder and hypothyroidism. Because of her conditions she takes multiple medications including 16 pills each day plus her insulin to help her maintain a stable health pattern.

With such an incredible story to share, Kelsey has learned strength and resilience as she has balanced her struggles and strains with hobbies including karate, marching band, sign language and musicals.
